Graphite drawing river Thames London by Alexandra Blum titled Goose Eye View

Alexandra Blum, ‘Goose Eye View’, graphite on paper, 42 x 59.4 cm, 2018. Private Collection.

As I drew the jetty, a Canada goose swam around the base of the structure many times. This led me to imagine the jetty’s structure from the goose’s vantage point, as well as from my own position on the bank of the river. I hoped to draw the looming presence of the structure’s massive framework, as it might be felt by the goose as it negotiated its many pillars.

‘Goose Eye View' was awarded the Hugh Casson Drawing Prize in the Summer Exhibition 2019 at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Huge thanks to the judges: Carola Zogolovitch, David Remfry RA and Diana Edmunds.
