I’m very pleased ‘Home 1’ will be part of the exhibition ‘A sense of place: Survival’.

You are warmly invited to the Private View on Wednesday 14th December 2022, 6-9pm at Bermondsey Project Space, 183-185 Bermondsey Street, London SE1 3UW.

Curated by Philippa Beale, this show is the last of three thematically linked exhibitions responding to the concept of a 'Sense of Place'.

Philippa Beale describes how, “The challenge to the artist's imagination in the 2020s is to profoundly question our values by asking how does humankind imagine its place on the planet? How can the artist evolve ways of living and working with ourselves and with nature?."

Exhibiting artists include: Suzanne Baker, Philippa Beale, John Blandy, Alexandra Blum, Day Bowman, Claire Cansick, Lara Cobden, Frank Creber, Suzanne Du Toit, Alex Faulkner, Ferha Farooqui, Mark Gibbs, Vaughan Grylls, Kerry Harding, Marguerite Horner, Paul Finn, Jane Humphrey, Joanna Hyslop, Helen Kirwan, Natasha Lien, Sarah Medway, Jo Minoprio, Howard Phipps, Chris Plato, Angela Rumble, Rachel Sargent, Nahem Shoa, Lesley And Nigel Slight, Michele Stagnetto and Sandra Wroe.

The show continues until Saturday 7th January 2023 and will be open Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 6pm. Closed for Christmas: Friday 23rd December until Monday 2nd January 2023. Further information here.

I made this drawing slowly, over two weeks, during the first lockdown in March 2020. During my daily lockdown walks, I’d noticed that my looking was slowing down and I was seeing more in streets I thought I knew well.

The same began to happen as I looked out of my flat window at home. I wanted this drawing to record the tiny events I noticed (a pigeon taking off, a crow pecking moss…) within the expansive space beyond the confines of my flat.
