Alexandra Blum, ‘10.9.10 - Dalston Square construction, 12th floor, library block, external scaffold’, charcoal on paper, 59 x 84 cm. Private Collection.

Perched 150 feet up on a scaffold platform, it felt exhilarating to have access to somewhere which was previously pure, empty space. A construction worker asked me if I wasn’t scared sitting on the edge, which I wasn’t, until he mentioned it…The sensation of being on a tiny island, with a huge arc of space wrapping around me became the starting point for this drawing.
