Mapping Urban Space - Click on an image to view each series Alexandra Blum’s work focuses on urban space, and combines drawings from maps and diagrams with those made on location in the city itself. An interest in the juxtaposition of differing methods of representing space, and the ways in which the reading of a map influences an individual’s encounter with actual space, is central to these images. Work made in different cities including Newcastle, London, Kyoto (Japan) and Paris, has informed her understanding of the nature of the city and the possibilities of rendering space in two dimensions. |
